On Thursday night Bron and I went to Peppered Prawn in the Sky Plaza Apartments on Corinna Street Phillip in Woden town. Peppered Prawn is a seafood restaurant with a good reputation for the quality of its food and service.
For an entrée it’s very difficult to go past oysters. I really like oysters, I know so many people who are revolted by them, but to me when they’re fresh and plump they represent all that is good in the sea. Albeit I acknowledge they are bivalve filter feeding mollusc. I also know one person who is an ethical vegan who happily eats oysters because he doesn’t believe they are sentient and posses no intelligence at all. If you an ethical vegetarian or vegan, I reckon you should go for it. Oyster meat is delicious. If you suffer from gout though be careful.
The dinner menu is replete with excellent examples of seafood as well as terrestrial meat delights. The specials board though had rudder fish and swordfish plus a fish I’ve heard a lot about but had never tried, viz., Patagonian toothfish. We checked and on the menu it assured us this fish was caught in commercial fisheries and wasn’t illegally caught.
The flesh was amazingly delicate. Bron was enjoying her swordfish which she said was quite firm (and delicious) and felt trying the Patagonian toothfish while eating the swordfish detracted a little from her dish because of the contrast in texture and flavour.
All in all this was a really good meal. The service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. I’d rate our meal at the Peppered Prawn well in the better meals I’ve experienced in Canberra. If you like seafood I’d recommend you try it out.
Dunny. It was spacious and well lit. There were no hand towels and the air dryer was well underpowered. I give it 2.25/5.
Napkins. Fail. They were paper.
Waiter etiquette. Excellent. There was no removal of plates while one of us was still eating.
