What is this? | Frog in the pond or Toad in the hole

#breakfast egg in toast | Does this have a fancy schmancy name?

A post shared by Gary Lum (@garydlum) on

On Saturday I posted this image (above) to Instagram and cross posted to my Facebook page and asked what is this?

Most replies came back Toad in the hole. This puzzled me because Bron has cooked me Toad in the hole before and it’s essentially sausages in a Yorkshire pudding batter.

Bron made toad in the hole #dinner #yummy

Bron’s Toad in the hole from a recent post

———-

Bron reminded me that a friend in Canberra does this with egg and toast and she calls it Frog in the pond.

When I think of frog in a pond though I think of jelly and a kids’ dessert treat

Bron searched wikipedia and came up with Eggs in the basket

So it looks like what I made for brunch yesterday was egg in the basket.

Thanks everyone and especially Bron.

  1. We always called this egg in a hole when we were growing up. My preschooler loves it. I use a cookie cutter to cut out a shape in the middle. You can’t really see the shape in the end result (the egg kind of congeals over it), but he loves the fun of eating the leftover shape-bread. If that makes sense.

  2. My kids love my dishes that are a version of some that I tried in a finger food catering. I usually give them something that has veggies and fruits in it. With that kind of eating routine, I managed to give them a good and healthy diet.

Please tell me what you think
