Change in jobs

It’s been an interesting week. Nothing much has happened with that piece of public art that I’ve posting about on Instagram. The weather has improved out of sight. It’s finally warming up in Canberra and while there have been some hot and dry days, the humidity hasn’t been as low as in past years. I know it’s only early but I really hope we have a warm and moist Summer in Canberra. Unlikely I know in Canberra but I live in hope.

=====

This image was captured on Monday morning. Since then nothing much has happened. I noticed some cabling so I assume there will be lighting at night for the piece.

Still no progress from last week. Concrete must be curing. #publicart #igerscanberra

On Friday it was announced that I would change roles. From Monday I will be the Specialist Medical Adviser in Health Emergency Management in the Office of Health Protection. I will then no longer be the Assistant Secretary of the Health Emergency Management Branch.

My areas of interest and activities will continue to align with my specialist medical and healthcare management experience in pathogen security, CBRN medical countermeasures, the health aspects of national security, and health emergency management. This should be a good move for me. I get to focus on the areas I am best suited for. I will miss managing people but the best thing is I still work my same work mates.

=====

My weight has been much the same for the last week. I haven’t been losing any weight although I’ve maintained the walking and trying to avoid snacking. Snacking though is a perennial problem when surrounded by amazing work friends who bring in treats and have special morning and afternoon tea sessions.

I’ve also been receiving encouragement from some Twitter friends who have been reminding me that my diet lacks vegetables and has too much processed food in it.

A work friend has a house mate who works in a bakery and we were blessed with free pastries. This is a chocolate filled butter-rich pastry.

Pure evil 😡😠

Last week I blogged about my favourite beverage, Bundaberg ginger beer. Here it is as a long neck or tallie.

On Monday night I had some minced chicken breast meat and made a chicken burger.

For dessert I had a couple of Neenish tarts topped with whipped cream from a can (used for the whipped cream dare from last week).

As I said above, the weather has been improving and we’ve been getting some nice rain.

To celebrate the rain I had salmon and potato gems.

Wednesday was really busy and a long day at work. I didn’t feel like cooking so I got takeaway from the local shops in the Jamison Plaza.

We had a full moon this week. I need to cut back on the light and use a faster shutter speed.

On Thursday a work friend brought in morning tea. I had a chocolate caramel fudge brownie and a Queensland nut shortbread biscuit.

At lunch time I went to the local shops with a friend and bought some Pâté, bread and butter. Then three of us shared this for lunch. The Pâté was by Maggie Beer, I bought two types, viz., duck, sherry, and green peppercorn and duck, vino cotto, and star anise. The butter was from Tasmania. The bread was fresh and it all tasted delicious.

We’re thinking of doing it again and getting quince paste too.

That night I only wanted a light dinner. Floured chicken thigh and potato gems.

But then I got told about my job change and thought I needed more food 🙂 This is a cheesy bacon pie and lime quench. The pie was really nice. The beef is chunky and very tender. These are made in the Urban Bean Espresso Bar.

For dinner to make up for the lack of vegetables this week I made some coleslaw and cooked a piece of salmon with it.

This morning I went for a walk in shorts and T-shirt. It was lovely and warm. The sky was full of dark clouds. The leaves on the trees are so green.

Perfect weather. Warm overcast and a feel of rain. #igerscanberra

The Owl statue, known to me as Mr Owl, looked spooky with the swirling clouds behind him.

I opened my Instacanvas recently. I don’t know why. I just did it for the sake of it I think.

In terms of the CPAP business I visited the CPAP technician and had my last three weeks analysed through the software associated with the machine. While I still feel worse than before and always tired it appears I get a good seal, the pressures are good and I don’t need to change from nasal pillows or add a chin strap.

So I hope you had a good week. Let me know about it, write a comment below. Eat well, sleep well and be nice to everyone.

    • Wow thank you Barb. That is so cool. I’ll get to this soon. I’ve just spent the better part of 24 hours flying from Canberra to Dulles for a meeting in Leesburg.

Thank you. I hope you are well *hugs*

      • Gaz – I am a faithful reader of your blog, and yes, I used to be able to eat what you do…I enjoy your writing so much, and I enjoy that you include me in your life with your posts, and emails too! I love your site and you do deserve this award! Take your time, and I hope that you do pass this on! Hey – how about you and Bron taking a trip to our neck of the woods? If you have to do a work related trip to the SF Bay Area, we are only 2 hours away! Hugs back!

  3. Congratulations on the job change, I hope you will be happy! Those danish from your co-workers look delicious!

I am working on my own personal weight issues… ugh, such a struggle! Congratulations on your success.

    The public art is interesting.

  4. I am a big fan of pate and Maggie’s look quite good. I wanted to loose weight without too much change and the biggest and best things I did were to give up fried food and soda drinks. Sometimes I miss the bubbles, but then I make a fizzy drink with juices or ginger syrup and club soda. I especially like fizzy lemonade!

    • When I lost a lot of weight I had to avoid pâté and offal because of gout. Now I drink lots of water and that pâté lunch was just a treat (although my friends are talking about an evening soon of wine, cheese, pâté, breads, quince paste, dried fruits and lots of laughing on a deck watching a late night sunset).
Everyday at work I go through at least a 2 litre jug of cold water plus multiple cups of black tea.
I love having my Magic Bullet® for the crushed ice and mint and then adding some soda water.

  5. Congratulations Gary!! It is a new opportunity. I am happy for you. They say one door closes another one opens. I wish you the best on this new venture. I have a feeling you will do well.

Your pictures are out of this world! First I love the public art and if they have lighting it will be amazing to see at night. The owl is gorgeous.

Gentle note; I love Diet Coke too, however Gary.., water is so much better for you 🙂
I think Diet beverages can mask and give you the feeling that you are cutting back, with in reality they actually may tempt you to eat more. (I am an over thinker).

The Magic Bullet looks astounding and sustainability green. I love the rich pastry and battered fish; looks incredible. The moon.., I am speechless. And the chocolate caramel fudge brownie is looking so good right now!!

I hope you don’t mind if I reblog your link today on my reblog page?
    .

    • Hi Judy,
I don’t mind your reblogging at all. Thanks.
I’m hoping the change will be rejuvenating for me.
What I don’t show in pictures is that everyday I usually have a 2 litre jug of cold water on my desk and I go through that and a bit more everyday plus multiple cups of black tea. Diet coke is a habit I’m trying to kick.

      • I am trying to kick diet coke too!! I actually have been drinking Canada Dry diet ginger ale made with real ginger. Not the same as the Diet Coke : )

        • Whenever I travel to North America I like that airlines stock Canadian dry ginger ale. I’m flying Sydney to Dulles via San Francisco tomorrow. As I drink a can I’ll think of you 🙂

  6. Interesting job move and hope you’ll enjoy the new posting! When you go for your walk, try add in the “tabata” training. It was first introduced by Japanese physiologist Izumi Tabata. (Now there are too many variations.) My coach goes the basics with us: after warm up, try 20″ intense interval walking, 10″ recovery; repeat 8 times, i.e., 4 mins. Good for cardio and fat burn. You can use the same schedule for any activities, be it spinning, running of weight lifting.

    • Thanks for the walking advice. I usually get up and out at about 0430 in the morning. At the time, it’s quiet and my mind isn’t buzzing too much with all sorts of random thoughts for the day ahead or from the day before. It’s a lot easier to vary my exercise now that it’s warmer. When it’s subzero all I want to do is stay warm 🙂

  7. Interesting job move Gaz 🙂 Also interesting food diary for the week, glad I got a mention as nagger of the week. Give you full marks for food honesty if not full marks for the food (aaaaarrghh!). Now that street art looks like another David Jensz number… any idea??

    • I’m thinking Flying Spaghetti Monster for Christmas 🙂

My eating is very emotional and lately I’ve been a bit emotional with changes in life. I’m hoping things even out soon and I get into a better routine.

Please tell me what you think
